The Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High School for Boys strongly encourages its students to pursue their post high school studies at an institution of higher learning.  Which College or University the student chooses is primarily a family decision.  The DRS College Guidance Department stands ready to assist families with the information they need to make the appropriate choice for each student.  Strong emphasis is placed on assisting students in selecting those colleges that will enable them to maintain strong Orthodox Jewish practices on the college campus.

The College Guidance Office at the Yeshiva disseminates information to students and parents on the complicated college preparation process.  From the time a student enters DRS in ninth grade until his graduation, there is strong emphasis on students maintaining a good academic record as the GPA (grade point average) is a crucial consideration by college admissions officers.

As early as tenth grade, the DRS College Guidance personnel provide scheduled information sessions to students and parents to assist them in selecting a suitable education plan for the future.  The process continues in the junior year when students are guided through the maze of college visits and the complicated choices of selecting the college that best “fits” their needs.  Each junior, together with his parents, is invited to schedule an individual meeting to review his scholastic performance, SAT requirements and course options for his senior year.  This process eliminates much of the stress that students feel, particularly in their junior and senior years.  The College Guidance Director, Mrs. Eva Hefter, is easily accessible and ready to answer all of your questions.  She can be reached at (516) 295-7700, ext. 204 and students are encouraged to stop in or schedule an appointment to see her.

We offer hands-on workshops in completing applications, essay writing and resume writing, thereby highlighting extracurricular activities in the school and the community at large. Monthly newsletters allow students to keep up to date on processing and deadlines.  They also serve to inform on various scholarship opportunities and financially beneficial programs.   Admissions officers from various colleges are invited to address the students directly and offer them the opportunity to ask specific questions about the campus.  The visits also allow an admissions officer to personally meet prospective applicants.  In addition, we offer an annual Financial Seminar during which a college financial officer teaches parents how to navigate the confusing financial aid application highway.

DRS is an established College Board SAT Test Center, offering Sunday examinations in October and May.  Students are assisted in completing the SAT registration packet and preparing for the rigorous SAT I and SAT II examinations. To this end, we partner with the Kaplan Test Prep Course to offer SAT classes here at our Yeshiva, customizing the schedule to meet our students’ needs.  The DRS school code is 332777 and the DRS Test Center Code is 33033 for the October and May SAT's.

Even after students have been admitted to college, the College Guidance Team facilitates their transition from secondary school to higher education.  We also continue to assist our students who study in Israel following their graduation.  We forward transcripts and recommendations as needed, and follow up on their receipt.  The DRS College Guidance personnel strive to meet new campus representatives and attend information sessions directly on the college campuses.  This enables the team to better understand changes that occur throughout the year.
