Tefillah: Tefillah is a fundamental activity of every Jew. HALB therefore recognizes and publicizes students who daven appropriately.
Music, Art, Physical and Health Education, Library and Computers are an integral part of the curriculum and are regularly scheduled periods for all classes. Athletic Teams - HALB is proud to offer a strong program of inter-Yeshiva sports (basketball and field hockey). Israeli dance is part of the sixth grade girls’ curriculum, and is an integral part of HALB’s special sixth grade girls’ Bat Mitzvah program. Chesed Programs - Visits to local nursing homes and senior residences are part of our regular curriculum. Special Chesed projects are incorporated into classrooms activities. Mishmar is held every Thursday between Succot and Pesach after school as a regular part of the curriculum for boys in grade 7-8. These sessions will now be taking place at the DRS Yeshiva High School Campus. JHS boys will go home at the regular dismissal time. There is no school transportation to and from Mishmar. Refreshments are served after the Mishmar sessions. Incentives will be rewarded for those students with exemplary attendance. Motzei Shabbat, community-wide Beit Midrash programs will be conducted and scheduled during the school year. Midot Tovot - The Yeshiva will be reinforcing the values taught in our acclaimed Project Derech Midot Program. The inculcation of proper midot is an integral part of our curriculum. Midot themes will be used for writing assignments both in Limudei Kodesh and General Studies. Strong parental involvement is required to achieve success in these activities. Parents and faculty must work as an effective partnership in stressing moral character development. Yom HaShoah – In addition to the in-school commemorations, HALB is privileged to participate in the community-wide Holocaust/Hazkarah program. The “3” R’s – Respect, Responsibility and Role model – is the cornerstone of our Middle States Re-accreditation’s success. With this as a backdrop, the events and programs we run outside of the classroom will successfully perpetuate the ideals that are taught in the classroom. Jewish activism, to better Klal Yisrael, both at home and abroad, and Chibat HaAretz are two areas that we take seriously. We expect the same from our students, and in particular our Junior High students. Junior Honor Society – Students in grades 7 & 8 who exemplify the values of the “3R’s” coupled with academic excellence, will be eligible to apply for HALB’s Junior Honor Society. Educational Outings and Programs are scheduled for all grade levels throughout the school year. Some of the highlights are Shabbatonim, Siyumim, trips to museums, theaters ,and Ruach events. Hebrew and English reading fairs and interdisciplinary projects, science fair competitions, participation in spelling bees, Brachot bees and Torah fairs also take place. The info-line is updated with actual arrival times for trips that return after dismissal. HALB G.O. is a student organization for junior high which holds election of officers in the fall and meets throughout the year to plan school-wide activities. G.O. sponsors Chesed and Tzedekah programs for the needy as part of our ongoing effort to inculcate Jewish values in our students. Salute to Israel Parade – Students in grades 5-8 create colorful costumes and banners, and proudly march up Fifth Avenue in the annual Salute to Israel Parade. Parents are encouraged to join in our solidarity in support of Israel. (see school calendar)
