SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH
The Social Science Research class is an independent study for students who have an interest in social science topics and issues. Students choose an approved topic to research and test it throughout the school year using the scientific method. Students are also required to write an abstract paper on their topic which includes a bibliography of sources. This gives the students a rich understanding of their topic and allows them to become expert communicators on their project. The students then create their own hypotheses, implement experiments, conduct surveys, formulate conclusions and design a poster board project that revolves around their findings. In the spring, the students present their projects at the Long Island Science Congress.
