Rabbi Yisroel Kaminetsky, our founding Menahel, embodies the character traits and Torah ideals which we hope to instill in our students.  A graduate of Yeshiva University, where he was Valedictorian of Jewish Studies and a musmach of its affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchonon Theological Seminary, he was hired immediately upon finishing his semicha as a Rebbe at Yeshiva University High School for Boys, his alma mater.  He then came to DRS where he has taught and served as a dynamic and beloved role model for all of our students.  His formal educational experience is complemented by an impressive array of informal educational experience – in New Jersey NCSY, Camps Mogen Avraham and Mesorah, as well as most recently, serving as the Mashgiach and Educational Director of the highly successful NCSY Summer Kollel in Bait Meir, Israel.  Rabbi Kaminetsky is known throughout the world of chinuch as an inspiring, caring and devoted educator and friend, whose ability to demand excellence from his students is eclipsed only by his love for them.  He has brought to the DRS Yeshiva High School for Boys a vision for infusing the entire Yeshiva with that same spirit of Torah, warmth and academic achievement.

For the past ten years, Dr. Broder has served as a master classroom teacher, student adviser, grade dean, teacher mentor, and college guidance counselor in the English and College Guidance Departments of two area schools, first at Yeshiva University High School for Boys, and most recently, at SAR High School. As an undergraduate at Yeshiva University, Dr. Broder was a Samuel Golding Scholar in the YU Honors Program, where he studied English and graduated, summa cum laude. While working as a full-time teacher, Dr. Broder continued his academic and professional training for seven years, completing an M.A., M.Phil, and Ph.D. in modernist and contemporary English literature at the Graduate Center, CUNY, where his doctorate earned the Calder Prize for Best Dissertation in Contemporary Literature. Additionally, over the years, he has taught professional development modules for teachers through the Yeshiva University School Partnership, and he has also taught composition and rhetoric at Fordham University over the past two years.

Dr. Broder favors a progressive, student-centered, and interdisciplinary approach to education. Beyond his scholarly publications in literary studies, popular publications in newspapers and magazines, and creative publications in poetry journals, he has received awards for innovating project-based and interdisciplinary units. He has researched, published, and presented on best practices in 21st century education, English education, educational psychology, and educational technology. He has implemented curricula for portfolio-driven classrooms, digital composition workshops, 21st century student skills, and experiential education. Our search committee was extremely impressed with his extensive knowledge, warmth, humility, sincerity, passion for education, and leadership capability.
